Self-directed learning is a new paradigm that is reshaping the landscape of education. We value the individuality of each trailblazer and will develop individualized learning plans based on their strengths, weaknesses, interests, and learning styles. These plans will be flexible and adaptable to accommodate each child’s unique educational journey and focused on mastery of the material instead of just a passing grade.
There are many benefits to self-directed learning, including:
…and the list goes on. Learn more about the benefits of learner-driven education and why it is becoming more popular within the educational realm.
The Socratic Method encourages trailblazers to think and articulate their thoughts in response to challenging questions or ideas. Each person is encouraged to interact with one another and have thought provoking conversations. We want to stimulate the minds in each trailblazer to develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.

We will incorporate project-based learning experiences (Imaginariums) where students work on interdisciplinary projects that integrate Christian values, academic content, and real-world applications. This approach fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

Our day is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions are for core curriculum studies with a focus on mastering each concept at each learner’s individual pace. Afternoon sessions are for project-based learning through Expeditions and is unique to each Base Camp.
We combine traditional and tech-driven learning tools to personalize each child’s education. Emphasizing mastery, learners are continuously stimulated and immersed in their coursework, affording them the necessary time to comprehensively grasp the subject matter. Morning sessions focus on core skills: reading, writing, math, life and computer sciences, and foreign languages.
Afternoons are for Expeditions aimed at tackling complex problems and creating innovative solutions. Trailblazers work collaboratively in teams to progress from concept to completion within each Base Camp. Many Expeditions are centered around developing products or solutions to real-world challenges.
We operate on a 10 month calendar, September—July, with sessions lasting for 5-6 weeks followed by short breaks of a week or two between each session. This scheduling model allows us to maintain continuity in learning while providing students with regular opportunities for rest, rejuvenation, and reflection.
Sessions unfold over five to six-week intervals, during which Trailblazers embark on an Expedition at the session’s outset. This Expedition is their focus throughout the duration, offering a deep dive into the given subject. As the session culminates, we host an exhibition, a celebratory event where Trailblazers showcase their projects. This exhibition is open to parents, family, friends, and the broader community, providing an opportunity for Trailblazers to present their work, share their discoveries, and celebrate their achievements in a supportive and engaging environment.
Our academic calendar is designed to align with the natural cycles of mental and physical energy, optimizing the learning experience. Although our total school days match those of traditional schools, we adopt an intense 5-6 week learning period followed by a well-deserved break. Each new session welcomes students with fresh Expeditions, reinvigorating the learning environment. Recognizing the importance of rest, yet aware that prolonged breaks can disrupt learning momentum, we’ve tailored our summer recess to 6 – 8 weeks, rather than the conventional 12 weeks, maintaining engagement and continuity in our students’ educational journey.
