What sets us apart? The Arise Difference

Prayer

At our school, we place a lot of value on prayer. We believe it’s important to pray for ourselves and for others. Learning how to pray openly in front of others and to pray together with someone is something we encourage. When we say we’ll pray for someone, we make sure to do it because it matters a lot. We also think that through our prayers and actions, we can help bring others closer to Christ. We often pause our daily activities to pray because it helps us connect and support each other. By praying, we seek help and find strength, making our school a caring and connected place where everyone feels important and supported. Prayer is a powerful tool that helps us face our daily challenges and strengthens our community, reminding us that we’re not alone and that we can always turn to God and each other for support.

Mastery Based Learning

Conventional educational institutions frequently rely on grades as a metric for success. However, we believe grades detract from our innate motivation to learn. When we prioritize grading over actual learning, our attention shifts towards achieving high grades rather than genuinely mastering or engaging with the subject matter. We incorporate a hybrid learning strategy, leveraging cutting-edge, adaptive educational technologies, letting students learn at their own pace. This approach aims to facilitate mastery in core subjects such as math, reading, writing, and spelling, while also instilling a sense of responsibility, goal-setting and originality. Why mastery based learning?

Self Paced Learning

We understand everyone absorbs and processes information differently. Self paced learning allows Trailblazers to progress through a course or curriculum at their own speed. This approach provides flexibility, enabling learners to spend more time on challenging concepts and less on those they grasp quickly, fostering a more effective learning environment. Trailblazers are able to progress through various subjects at individualized proficiency levels while maintaining their placement within a cohesive peer group. This approach not only enables learners to advance according to their own readiness and capability, thereby removing barriers to accelerated learning, but also ensures that they are not constrained by the uniform pace of traditional educational systems. See what research says about Self-Pacing.

Socratic Discussion

We hold that the educational journey becomes significantly more engaging when educators pose thought-provoking questions and promote experiential learning. Our teachers employ the Socratic method, skillfully answering inquiries with further questions to stimulate dialogue. This method sharpens our young learners’ abilities in critical analysis and effective communication. Learn more about The Benefits of Renewing Education with the Socratic Method.

Projects with Purpose (Expeditions)

Our students aren’t confined to memorization learning or simply echoing information. Rather, they engage in tangible, real-world experiences via project-based and play-oriented learning activities (depending on age). We hold the conviction that learning is most effective when it is experienced through enjoyment. Expeditions are designed to provide practical experience and to foster problem-solving and creative thinking skills.

Real-World Experience

We strive to connect academic lessons to their applications in the real world as much as possible. Trailblazers may go on a field trip to different sites to learn about the subject or industry they are studying. Experts in all different fields of subjects are invited to share their wisdom. Collaboration with local businesses and partnering with organizations for hands on learning give vital opportunities and allow first hand experience.

Character Development

Our commitment to character development is deeply rooted in our educational approach, blending spiritual values with our core principles—integrity, respect, and responsibility. We integrate these values into every aspect of our curriculum and daily interactions to nurture a faith-based community. Our Trailblazers engage in personalized learning that fosters independence and self-awareness, participate in community service to develop empathy, social responsibility, and a servant’s heart, and embrace collaborative and experiential learning to build teamwork and practical skills. A robust peer to peer mentorship program further supports personal and spiritual growth, fostering strong, supportive friendships that reflect Christian principles. Through these comprehensive methods, we prepare our students to be principled leaders and innovators, equipped to make positive impacts in their communities and beyond, guided by their faith.

Teachers as Guides

Instead of Sage on the stage, we use Guides by the side. We believe this approach better supports individual learning styles and encourages students to actively engage with the material. Studies show that when educators act as facilitators rather than dictators of knowledge, students develop greater ownership of their learning processes. This method fosters critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration—skills essential for success in the modern world. Benefits of using guides instead of traditional teachers include enhanced student engagement and improved problem-solving abilities, as learners are encouraged to explore, question, and discover independently. By providing tools and support, our guides help pave the way for a lifelong love of learning and a deep understanding of the world around them.

Growth Mindset

Our educational setting fosters a spirit of inquisitiveness, perseverance, and resilience. We hold the conviction that posing the correct questions holds more value than possessing the correct answers, prompting our students to put forth their utmost effort daily. In our studio, we view failures as opportunities for development and enhanced understanding, celebrating them as stepping stones to greater achievement. We inspire our learners to embrace their mistakes as learning experiences, thereby cultivating an attitude focused on continuous improvement and personal development.

Peer-to-Peer Mentoring

We embrace peer-to-peer mentoring as a pivotal element of our educational framework due to its profound benefits in fostering academic and personal growth among students. This mentoring approach not only enhances learning outcomes by allowing students to teach and learn from one another, thereby reinforcing their own knowledge, but also significantly boosts their confidence and social skills. By promoting a strong sense of community and mutual respect, peer-to-peer mentoring effectively reduces feelings of isolation that can lead to bullying and depression. Students feel more connected and supported when they know they have peers who are not just classmates, but also mentors and confidantes. Ultimately, peer-to-peer mentoring at Arise Christian Academy cultivates a nurturing atmosphere that encourages both educational success and emotional well-being. Learn more about peer-to-peer mentoring and its benefits for students.

Movement and Seating

In traditional schools, it’s common for students to remain seated at desks for long stretches, a practice that can exhaust both body and mind, stifling both creativity and analytical skills. In contrast, our environment encourages students to move and work in varied spaces, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere. We believe in comfortable seating options like sofas and bean bags, diverging from the usual classroom furnishings to support a more relaxed and versatile learning experience.

No Homework

Assigning homework is commonly practiced to solidify the lessons taught during class time. Yet, this approach can lead to stress and an overwhelming workload for students. According to Kohn’s investigations and studies, homework actually undermines the goals it aims to achieve, showing no beneficial impact, particularly for younger students. Instead of homework, ACA tangible, real-life experiences and project-based learning.
